Home is a basic necessity for every human being. We living in first world countries cannot imagine life without adequate shelter. Many of us live in houses with the world’s luxuries at arms-length. Unfortunately, many poor families in third world countries do not have adequate shelter to save themselves from the harshness of weather and protect their honour from street onlookers.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Dabbagh Welfare Trust receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

Why do people need help in building their homes?

There are millions of poor families who are suffering from a lack of proper housing. This is ultimately due to a lack of financial resources. Many families have a small plot of land upon which they have built mud or brick houses. However, due to being stuck in a generational poverty cycle, their financial circumstances do not allow them to convert this land into a proper house.

Through our Shelter Appeal, we are building houses for poor families, widows, orphans and vulnerable individuals like the elderly and disabled. Right now, we have many ongoing projects. Our shelter appeal is bringing families out of poverty by helping them build their homes.

Shelter Appeal: Lack of proper housing is directly linked to poverty

Adequate housing is the key to reducing intergenerational poverty and increasing economic mobility. Research shows that a family living in a properly built house with bedrooms, kitchen & washroom will flourish more than another family living in a house with broken walls, shared bedrooms, an open kitchen and an open washroom.

By helping us in building houses for the poor or by donating to our shelter appeal you will not only provide shelter for the poor families but you will help in reducing childhood poverty and increase economic mobility in the area.

Would you be able to live with water constantly leaking through your roof?

The answer would be NO.

Alhamdulillah, for families living in houses with leaky roofs, we build strong and proper houses for them. All houses built by Dabbagh Welfare Trust protect poor families from harsh weather conditions. Our houses also protect these families from illnesses such as malaria (which is very common when people sleep in the open air).

Most importantly – houses built through our shelter appeal provide ‘RIGHT OF PRIVACY’ for these families.

Dabbagh Welfare Trust strongly believes that a house can be only be classed as a safe place for the children if it is built with proper walls, have a strong roof and have a kitchen, bathroom and toilet. Alhamdulillah, we are helping poor widows and the elderly rebuild their homes so they don’t have to worry about leaky roofs or feel scared about walls collapsing after every wind storm or heavy rain.

We need donors like you, who can help the poor build-out of poverty. This is a Sadaqah Jariyah opportunity as you will continue receiving the reward long after you have left this temporary abode.

Access to decent housing can prevent a family from going deeper and deeper into the poverty hole. In a country where 25% of people live below the poverty line, where millions are living on £1.50 a day. There is no way these families can build a proper house for themselves. On our travels, through the country, we come across thousands of poor and needy families, who own a piece of land (which they bought by saving all their life) but cannot afford to build a house on this land.

We come across thousands of families who have a house but the condition of the house is so bad and it can collapse anytime. Every year, thousands lose their lives after building collapses.

Gaza – the name sends shivers down the spine. Over the years, the number of barbarity people of Gaza has endured is unimaginable. 80% of the Gaza population is heavily dependent on food aid from charities like us.

Alhamdulillah, through our Gaza Emergency Appeal, we have helped thousands of families in Gaza. One of our Gaza Humanitarian Aid project is to provide Shelter Packs for Gaza families. Our Gaza shelter pack include items like mattresses, a cooker, utensils, blankets, clothes and a food pack.

Our houses provide poor families with more than just shelter. We help them create memories with their loved ones in the house we build for them with the help of your donations. For every house we build, we provide the following:

For families with a disabled person, we help build a house (including kitchen & washroom) suitable for them.

Shelter Appeal – Personalised Feedback

Here at Dabbagh Welfare Trust, we provide personalised feedback where you have requested or you have provided plaque information. For shelter appeal, if at the time of donating for building a house for the poor, you’ve provided us with plaque information along with your contact details, then Insha’Allah upon completion we will provide you personalised feedback about your donation.

Upon receiving the donation we will Insha’Allah build a house for the poor within 2-6 months. For kitchens & washrooms, it usually takes 8-10 weeks.

Donation Policy

Dabbagh Welfare Trust operates a 100% Transparency Policy. Our financial records are available to anyone who wishes to see where donations are being spent. We are a 90% Donation Policy Charity.

Example

If £100 is donated towards our Sadaqah Jariyah projects, the breakdown of that donation is as follows.

£90 will be spent on Sadaqah Jariyah projects like building houses for the poor, building Mosques, sponsoring widows & orphans or building water wells

£6 will be used on marketing to re-generate further donations for Sadaqah Jariyah projects

£4 will be used for administration and the delivery of Sadaqah Jariyah projects

0 salaries – Dabbagh Welfare Trust does not have any salaried employees

Any gift aid claimed will be reinvested back into the charity in the form of funding projects which don’t receive enough donations and to cover any extra marketing and administration costs.
